systeme.io vs Kit: one flat price for five jobs, or the better newsletter tool
This pairing surprises people because the two products are rarely compared. It should not: a creator starting today has to choose between one cheap tool that does five jobs adequately and one excellent tool that does one job. The prices are close enough to make the decision genuinely hard, and the fees are structured so differently that the cheaper subscription is not always the cheaper business.
Short version
- Choose systeme.io if you sell something — a course, a product, a workshop — and you want funnels, checkout, email and a light CRM in one invoice. Startup at $17/month flat is the cheapest complete stack in this category.
- Choose Kit if the newsletter is the business, your list is growing, and you want the best publishing and creator-commerce ergonomics available. 10,000 subscribers free is an unmatched runway.
- Choose neither if you are running a content operation with a team, an editorial calendar and sponsor relationships — that is beehiiv's shape, covered in beehiiv vs Kit.

Detail on both: systeme.io pricing and Kit pricing.
The fee line decides it more often than the subscription
Run a course business selling a $199 course twelve times a month — $2,388 in revenue.
- systeme.io at 0% takes nothing beyond your payment processor. Platform cost: $17.
- Kit at 3.5% + 30¢ would take about $73 in fees on that volume, on top of $33.
So the $16 subscription gap is the smaller half of the story. But be careful with the reverse case: if you sell almost nothing and your revenue is a newsletter you publish for free, Kit's fee line costs you nothing at all, and its 10,000-subscriber free tier is worth far more than systeme.io's 2,000-contact cap. Fees matter when you sell; caps matter when you grow.
Where systeme.io wins
- One invoice. Funnels, checkout, email, course delivery, booking calendar and blog on one bill, one login, one contact record. The integration work disappears because there is nothing to integrate.
- Flat pricing under headcount growth. Add three contractors and the bill does not move. Kit charges by subscriber, and seat limits push you up a tier.
- Unlimited sub-accounts at every plan level, each carrying the parent plan's limits. For a consultant or an agency running client funnels, this is the most underpriced feature in the category — we covered it in the pricing breakdown.
- 0% fees from the free plan up. You can test a paid offer before you have any subscription at all.
Where Kit wins
- It is a better newsletter tool, by a lot. The editor, the sending reputation, the subscriber experience. If you publish weekly, this matters every week.
- 10,000 subscribers free with unlimited sends. systeme.io's free plan caps at 2,000 contacts. Kit's runway is five times longer and there is no automation cliff at 2,000.
- Creator commerce is deeper where it counts. Paid newsletter subscriptions, tip jars, recommendation network — the monetisation surfaces a writer actually uses.
- Deliverability track record. A large share of independent newsletters run on Kit, which means infrastructure tuned for exactly this traffic.
A decision rule that holds up
- Do you have a product to sell in the next 90 days? Yes → systeme.io. The funnel and checkout are already there, and 0% fees keep the maths clean.
- Is the newsletter the product? Yes → Kit, start free, stay free until you need sequences.
- Both, eventually? Start on Kit free to build the list, and add systeme.io when you build the offer. The two coexist: Kit sends, systeme.io sells. That costs $17 and is not a compromise.
What we cannot verify
Plan limits, prices and fee lines above come from both vendors' pricing pages, verified October 23, 2026, and we re-check quarterly. systeme.io's figures are from its annual-billing view; monthly-billing prices were not captured and we do not estimate them. Our hands-on testing cycle is in progress — we have not run a live product sale on either platform, so we cannot report a measured transaction fee, real deliverability, or checkout conversion. The Kit 3.5% + 30¢ line is as displayed, not as measured by us. Findings will be added per our How We Test process.
