Podia alternatives: four platforms and the specific thing each does better

Podia alternatives: four platforms and the specific thing each does better

By Marcus Webb · Pricing verified on vendor pages October 23, 2026 · Hands-on testing in progress — see note below

Podia's pitch is one subscription for courses, downloads, email and checkout. That pitch is also the reason people leave it: they are paying for a bundle when they need one part of it, or they have outgrown one part of it and the bundle has no headroom. Here is what to switch to, and the specific job each alternative does better.

First, the prices you are leaving

Podia Mover is $42 a month with a 5% transaction fee and a 100-subscriber email cap. Shaker is $84 with no fee and 500 subscribers. Earthquaker is $150 with 1,000. All three bundle community, courses, downloads, coaching, a website and email. Full arithmetic on the fee is in Podia pricing explained.

systeme.io — when the problem is the price

The cheapest thing comparable to Podia Shaker is systeme.io Startup at $17 a month on annual billing — $204 a year against $1,008, with 5,000 contacts against 500 and no transaction fee on any tier including its free one. The free plan alone carries 2,000 contacts, one course, one funnel and unlimited email sends.

Switch if: price is the binding constraint, you are pre-revenue, or you run client work and want the sub-account structure — every sub-account inherits your plan's full limits, which nothing in Podia's pricing does.

Stay if: you sell internationally and rely on Podia's tax handling across 230 countries, or the polish of its checkout and course player is what your buyers see. The money you save on systeme.io is partially repaid in the settings screens you now have to understand yourself. Full comparison: Podia vs systeme.io.

Teachable — when you sell one course and the fee is small

Teachable renamed its plans and removed its free tier this year, which most reviews have not caught up with. Its current Starter is $59 a month ($39 on annual billing) with a 7.5% transaction fee and five product slots. Below $333 a month in sales, that is cheaper than Podia Shaker — and its course delivery experience is the reason people put up with the rest.

Switch if: you sell one flagship course, your sales are under $333 a month, and course presentation matters more than product count.

Stay if: you sell many products — Starter's 5 slots against Podia Mover's 50 is the deciding column, not the fee. Full comparison: Teachable vs Podia.

Kit — when email is the part you have outgrown

Podia's email ladder — 100, then 500, then 1,000 subscribers — is the axis most sellers hit first. Kit's free plan carries 10,000 subscribers with unlimited sends, no automation, and its first paid tier is $33 a month. If Podia's job for you is mostly "email the list and sell the thing", the thing you are paying $1,008 a year for may be available in the parts you actually use.

Switch if: your subscriber count is why you are on Shaker or Earthquaker, and your products would survive on a leaner storefront.

Stay if: you want checkout, products and email in one bill and one login. Splitting them is how you end up with three subscriptions instead of one — the arithmetic only works if you actually cancel the bundle. We compared the email platforms directly in Kit vs MailerLite and beehiiv vs Kit.

The spreadsheet-plus-payment-link stack — when none of it is needed yet

Podia Mover at $504 a year plus 5% is a real cost for a business that sells occasionally. A payment link, a PDF, and a manual "here is your file" email cost nothing and cover the first handful of sales. It is the option nobody's comparison table includes, and it is correct until recurrence or volume makes the manual step the expensive part.

Switch to it if: you have made fewer than about ten sales and none of them recurring. Come back to Podia when: you are emailing more than a hundred people, or delivering more than a handful of files a week.

What we cannot verify

Podia, systeme.io, Teachable and Kit prices were verified on vendor pages October 23, 2026, in USD, on each vendor's yearly or annual view. Monthly-billed figures were not captured for Podia. We have not run a launch on any of these platforms, so deliverability, checkout conversion, refund behaviour and support quality are unverified — and those are the factors most likely to make the "cheaper" option expensive. Kajabi, Thinkific and Gumroad are frequently suggested as Podia alternatives; we have not verified their current prices and therefore do not print them. See How We Test.
